Who Is Behind This?

You may be asking yourself, “So who is behind all this?”

Blogs By Design is a website owned by my company, The L W Wallace Company, in Northeast Ohio. The L W Wallace Company has been in business since 1949, and started out providing trade show display materials and technical manuals (installation, repair, service) for all kinds of industry. But things change, don’t they? I am the fourth owner of the company. In the 1990s, I was instrumental in bringing the company into the digital age. I took over in 2003 when the owner retired. The company website (portfolio) is at lwwallace.com.

I have been an illustrator and graphic designer since 1987, starting out as an airbrush illustrator and retoucher. I received my training in mechanical and technical drawing and rendering as an apprentice. I have been doing web design since 2000, but I really prefer illustration. And WordPress. I love building WordPress sites and have been asked to do individual sites for others on many occasions. I’m not as fond of the promotion duties, but I do promote my Amazon sites. I guess I just enjoy the creative process.

I often say “we” or “our” even though I do the website builds. There are several reasons for this. One, the L W Wallace Company is incorporated, and as such it is a separate entity. Two, I do hire private contractors on occasion and I value their input in company projects very highly. These contractors include photographers, programmers, sales people, and technical writers. No business exists in a vacuum. That would be impossible. All businesses have needs.

A website happens to be one of those needs. It is usually cost prohibitive for smaller operations, or even single-person enterprises to have a website built for them. Today, if you are in business, or freelance at something (art, consulting, etc.), you NEED a web presence. And you need something YOU can manage. So often, people struggle to build their own site, spending hours, only to have a less-than-adequate site that is difficult to deal with when making changes. How much is your time worth? I mean, in dollars. Billable dollars. Is it worth it?

I also see people using do-it-yourself sites where you can pay to build your site on someone else’s domain. Convenient, sure. Vesatile? Not really. Professional? No. Here, we build the site, on your domain, on your hosting. You promote it and grow it. So in essence, we plant the garden, but you must take care of it and cultivate it to make it bear fruit. Having the site built is the first step, and a necessary one.

So we hope you will entrust us to create a usable web presence for you. If not, good luck in your endeavors and may you experience fruitful prosperity well into the future. Peace.

Sincerely,
Linda M. Carruth, President
L. W. Wallace Co.
